Catching up with Bushwick’s package-free grocery store, Precycle

By Former Agent

We first wrote about the shop when it was preparing to open. Now, it’s a thriving local business offering eco-friendly goods to an enthusiastic community. We revisited the store and founder Katerina Bogatireva to learn how things are going and what’s coming up.

What has the Bushwick community’s response been to the store?

It’s been very warm and welcoming — it feels like a very tight knit community. Every person that walks through the door has been an inspiration to me and I constantly learn from my customers. It’s been tremendous fun getting to know them.

What has been your favorite part of running the shop so far?

My interactions with people. Connecting and witnessing how people truly are willing to travel to shop responsibly.

What’s your favorite product in the store?

Bulk tofu — it was difficult to source responsibly, but we did it!

How has your vision for Precycle evolved since we last spoke?

I’ve learned a lot from the experience and our customers and coworkers. It’s been very inspiring and validating. I am working on bringing Precycle to more neighborhoods in NYC. I’m ready to push forward now more than ever.

Anything else you’re looking forward to?

We’re excited about the Earth Day 2019 celebration in Union Square on April 23. Hope to see some familiar faces there!

PS: We’re partnering with Precycle to give away a $100 gift card to one lucky winner, so you can experience the shop’s bounty first-hand. Head to our Instagram to learn how to enter!
